EU’s Vestager says probe into Ad-sense case nearing end

LISBON (Reuters) – EU regulators are close to wrapping up their third case against Alphabet <GOOGL.O> unit Google involving its AdSense advertising service, Europe’s antitrust chief said on Wednesday, suggesting the company may soon be struck with another hefty fine.

The comments by European Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager come 4 months after she levied growing 4.34 billion euro ($5 billion) fine against Google for making use of its popular Android mobile computer itself to close rivals.

That followed a two.4 billion euro fine imposed about the company last year after it thwarted rivals of shopping comparison websites.

The European Commission in 2016 opened yet another case if this accused Google of preventing other companies with their AdSense product from displaying search advertisements from Google’s competitors.

“We have been approaching the end of that investigation,” Vestager told reporters on the Web Summit in Lisbon when requested an update within the investigation.

Google has denied the fees.

Vestager can fine companies as many as Ten % of their global turnover for breaching EU rules.
