Indonesia president urges woman to get jailed in harassment case to hunt justice

JAKARTA (Reuters) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo said on Monday that the teacher sentenced to jail for spreading an “immoral” audio tape documenting alleged sexual harassment from the school principal should seek a judicial review.

In a claim that has shocked many Indonesians, the Supreme Court announced a couple weeks ago that Baiq Nuril Maknun, 37, could well be jailed for six months time for recording and spreading “information violating decency”. She was also fined 500 million rupiah ($34,300).

Widowo said he couldn’t intervene in cases where, but said Maknun should request a judicial review.

“If later she doesn’t find justice using a judicial review she may request clemency into the president, that’s the procedure,” he was quoted saying inside a statement.
