Trump calls CIA assessment of Khashoggi murder premature but possible

WASHINGTON/MALIBU, California (Reuters) – President Mr . trump on Saturday termed as CIA assessment blaming Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for that killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi “very premature” and said he can acquire a complete variety of the case .

A source aware of the CIA’s assessment stated it was based largely on circumstantial evidence regarding the prince’s central role in running the Saudi government.

The CIA’s finding is regarded as the definitive U.S. assessment to date tying Saudi Arabia’s de facto ruler with the the killing and contradicts Saudi government assertions that Prince Mohammed weren’t involved.

Khashoggi, a critic in the crown prince, was killed in October on the Saudi consulate in Istanbul when he went there to get documents he needed for his planned marriage.

As lawmakers push legislation to punish Saudi Arabia to the killing, both Republican and Democratic senators on Saturday urged Trump for being tough for the crown prince, with whom she has cultivated a deep personal relationship.

Trump and top administration officials have said Saudi Arabia needs to be held to make up any involvement in Khashoggi’s death and still have imposed sanctions on 17 Saudis because of their role in the killing.

But they have also stressed the significance of Washington’s ties with Riyadh, one of the biggest clients of the U.S. defense industry. Trump wishes to preserve the Saudi arms deals, despite growing opposition in Congress.

“They were a genuinely spectacular ally concerning jobs and economic development,” Trump said. “As president, I must require a many things note.”
