VW says could build up to 15 million electric cars

FRANKFURT (Reuters) – Volkswagen <VOWG_p.DE> could eventually get to 15 million electric cars over a number of years on its new electric vehicle production platform, the company said on Friday, adding what has Ceo Herbert Diess had misspoken within a interview on Monday.

Automotive News on Monday quoted Diess as stating VW could build 50 million electric vehicles globally across its brands, starting in 2020, along battery sourcing agreements for these people.

A spokesman on Friday declared that the figure, which called a theoretical long-term goal for that MEB electric car manufacturing platform, was overstated.

“Diess intended to say 15 million, not 50 million cars,” the spokesman said.
